There are mainly two different types of fire pits. Fire pits that are built in fire pits made with materials such as rock or brick. Then there are the out of box fire pits. You've seen them every where and they look cool. When yo are talking about something that you are going to build a fire in you must think pratical! Not pretty

Out Of the Box Fire Pits

This is what we are going to discuss. The out of box fire pits.
You see a picture of a fire pit on a box and you'll think how cool. That would look just awesome on our deck. We can have a camp fire out on the patio and when we aren't using the fire pit it'll look awesome. It's a scenario that happens a lot. The fire pit idea is a great idea and we love the fire pit but some fire pits look better not used and they don't function as fire pits very well at all. Here me out on this.

Let's Look at the whole picture.

First off - the fire pit has to be safe. Who wants a fire pit that going to create a safety hazard. We are dealing with fire. Safety is a non negotiable issue.

Second- It has to be easy and convenient to use. Otherwise you won't use it. It'll turn into one of those products that you use once and it sits in your backyard and never gets used.

Third- The fire pit must be easy to clean. If cleaning the fire pit turns into an issue then it won't get used.

Forth- It must look good. All fire pits look good in the box. It's marketing. These people make big bucks by taking a great picture of a cheesy product so it markets well. How many times have you bought something only to take it out of the box and you think "What is this".

FIfth- What's the fire pit going to look like when not in use? If it looks tacky sitting on the patio when your not using it- lets face it, the wife will put it someplace and you'll never find it again.

Sixth- It has to be the right size to work well. When you burn firewood your going to have ashes. If the fire pit isn't large enough to handle ashes then it won't work. It has to be large enough to accommodate the firewood that you are going to use otherwise your cutting wood and the fire pit won't get used because you don't feel like cutting wood. Size is important.
